Thank you for your interest and inquiry about our Havanese.

The procedure that is followed is simple. The questionnaire below is filled out. We then have phone conversations and hopefully a meeting to meet each other and visit the puppies. All this before the puppies go to their new homes. It is imperative that I know as much about each family requesting a puppy so that I may match that family with the best possible puppy that I may have for them. The only way to know all that information is to follow the procedure that I have outlined.

All prospective buyers are required to visit our home to meet our dogs. Meeting both of the puppy’s parents, if possible, along with other dogs we own, is important for you the buyer. Meeting you and your family and all those that will be in regular contact with the new puppy is also important to us. Getting to know any children involved gives me a feel for the family dynamics as well. It is a win-win situation. The questionnaire is a microsoft word doc and can be filled out online and sent as an attachment. I will print it out and keep for reference when selecting a puppy.

One of the questions that is most important is regarding what you consider to be your “ideal” puppy’s temperament. One that you feel would best be suited to your family situation. All those families that are considered for adopting a puppy are permitted to visit the pups once they are 6-8 weeks old, before the pups go home at approximately12 weeks old.

All pups have a comprehensive health screening by my Vet at 8 weeks of age. You get written instructions regarding shot/vaccination record, feeding instructions, grooming instructions, and where I recommend purchasing grooming supplies, as well as food. You get a copy of the AKC Registration online. You will also receive other paperwork regarding your new puppy. We “microchip” all of our puppies. You are instructed as to the filling out of the microchip information in order to register the microchip with AKC’s Companion Animal Recover System. Microchips are used to permanently identify animals in case of loss. All humane societies and rescue groups now have readers with which to scan any animal coming in to their facility so that they may contact the owners as soon as possible if the animal is a stray.

Any puppy sold as a Companion Pet shall be provided with an AKC “Limited Registration” and a spay/neuter agreement. Quickstep Havanese shall be notified by the puppy’s Vet when spayed/neutered.

I hope I have answered any questions you may have about our procedure and placement policy. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

I apologize for the length and detailed nature of this questionnaire, but I do my best to improve this breed and that includes finding the optimal family conditions for my puppies. I believe strongly in prevention rather than repair. The best way for me to make a successful placement for one of my pups is to match it, with its individual temperament, to a family whose personalities and lifestyle will suit it and appreciate its unique qualities.
